About

About Dr. Patton

CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST

I am Dr. Kaitlin Patton, and I hope that the following gives you insight into my background and training, how I practice, and if I am a good fit for you!

IN BRIEF

My goal for my patients is that they feel supported and empowered as they approach growth and health in their lives. I care about the successes and the challenges that we all carry, as both are inherent areas of life. I value bravery, kindness, curiosity, honesty, and willingness to try. I often see the act of showing up as resilience and courage. I highly value ethics and the science of psychology and decided to get my Ph.D. because of the value of research and science-based treatment. I believe that every person is inherently valuable.

Personally, I enjoy going on walks, travel, books on tape, and spending time outside. I hope to have a great garden one day, but until then, I will continue to buy cut-flowers. I try to bring a sense of curiosity, intentionality, and “coming alongside” into the therapeutic relationship… as well as corny jokes and puns.

THE LONG VERSION

I received my doctorate from Seattle Pacific University in clinical psychology and completed my predoctoral internship training at the Southwest Consortium. I then completed my postdoctoral fellowship at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico, as a Fellow in Systems Redesign and Psychosocial Rehabilitation. My clinical interests lie in supporting individuals as they build meaningful and fulfilling lives. Taking a values-based approach, I capitalize upon the strengths that each person possesses to find solutions to the barriers, difficulties, or challenges they may be facing.

While my theoretical orientation is predominantly centered upon a cognitive-behavioral and ACT-informed approach, I value and have trained extensively in evidenced-based practices including motivational interviewing, social skills training, dialectical behavior therapy, cognitive processing therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy (for psychosis, for anxiety and depression, and for insomnia). This training is built upon expertise and focus of behavioral change principles and the impact that emotions and thoughts have upon our behaviors, well-being, and a person’s ability to flourish.

I have had the privilege of working within the varied levels of mental healthcare — in outpatient settings, embedded behavioral health, residential programs, and inpatient settings (medical and psychiatric). This has led to my specialization of adjustment to serious mental health concerns, focusing on cultivating meaning within the life of my patients, with an eye for continuity of care across the lifespan. It also has created a desire to partner with individuals who are facing adjustment to new diagnoses, changing levels of ability, cognitive concerns, and/or medical concerns.

By combining skillful assessment of mental health concerns with practical knowledge and evidence-based practices, I can help individuals work on their goals while understanding the personal factors that impact skill attainment. By understanding the interplay between emotions, behaviors, physical health, and adjustment, I can better support my clients as they seek clarity, support, and growth.
