About

Welcome! Glad you stopped by. I am a licensed psychologist, and I provide psychotherapy/counseling to children/teens, parents and young adults in Maryland, DC and Virginia.

My expertise is in treating anxiety, depression and/or ADHD. In addition, I specialize in anxiety, stress & depression that is specifically tied to (1) health concerns and/or (2) living with minoritized identities. Lastly, I also have a specialization in preschool mental health through providing Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) for young child anxiety and temper tantrums/moodiness.

My approach is warm and validating with a healthy dose of honesty. I practice from an integrative framework; for some (particularly children), I use cognitive behavioral approaches, which are active and present-focused; for others (particularly young adults), my approach may also include attention to identity and earlier life experiences. I believe strongly in the mind-body connection. Through working with hundreds of children, parents and young adults to heal from painful relationships, fear, anxiety, mood concerns, etc, I’ve learned that everyone’s journey is unique — even two people experiencing the same issue may need two different approaches.

In addition to providing psychotherapy/counseling, I am also a proud psychology nerd. I have had the privilege of writing over 65 book/encyclopedia chapters and academic pieces on psychotherapy for children, parents and young adults experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, ADHD, sleep problems and chronic illness, including those from multicultural backgrounds (see here for some samples). “District Psychology Center” was named to include this passion of mine.

In addition to my clinical practice, I am also a psychology researcher at Children’s National, where I contribute to the field of child, parent and young adult health psychology.

Outside the office, I love creating art, gardening and listening to podcasts. I also enjoy writing, spinning, and traveling.
